working girl

26 Jul

A weekend has never felt so lovely.

My first three days of work were difficult but uneventful for the most part.  I’m learning as quickly as possible, but there is always something, some detail I haven’t picked up yet, some step of a procedure, and I’ll be making a lot of mistakes until I figure this whole thing out.

In the meantime, I’ve been exposed to just how miserable my working wardrobe is.

I have a pair of black pants, a pair of grey pants, and a khaki pencil skirt that needs to be tailored.  Besides that there are a few button up shirts and a couple of sweatery things, most of them a little ill fitting and a bit outdated.  Yesterday Tess (who is visiting for a couple of days) and I went into Ross and Maurice’s hunting for some appropriate business casual outfits.  In Maurice’s, a salesgirl took pity on me and stocked a dressing room with petite vesty sweater things and tunic whatsits that would be appropriate on any stylish city girl.

Sadly, most of them made me look like a potato.

Ultimately I came home with a purple short-sleeved sweater, a black and blue sort of vest thing with sleeves I don’t even know but it’s cute, a pair of silver flats and a pair of dark wash Nine West jeans that I would define, I think, as a Super Steal.

(and a pair of cowboy boots.)

Okay, stop.  Don’t look at me like that!  They were at Ross.  They were adorable and a perfect fit.  and you can all just shut up about the boots I don’t need, because I do need them, for…for my…for my peace of mind.

Yeah.

That’s right.

Pictures coming soon.

Do you want me to mail you one of my extra cowboy hats? I could part with my lasso too. I loved your potato line.

Cowgirl boots are a complete necessity!

Ah – it took me about two years of office work to finally get a wardrobe where I have abouuuuuut 2 weeks worth of office outfits. Just. If I repeat a skirt or two.
I find it’s easier to be office worthy in a pencil skirt and a cute top than in pants. Which is why I currently don’t even own office pants. Or dresses!

this is one of the reasons i love being a teacher. i can wear whatever the hell i want. some days this means a full-on suit, blazer and all, some days it means a cute dress, and some days it means jeans and old tennis shoes and a t-shirt with the neck cut out of it.

I feel for you darling. I literally cannot remember the last time I wore a pair of jeans, which would have been incomprehensible to me 2 years ago. Boo, real life, you kind of suck in some aspects.

Also: the consumption of powder. We will speak on this, because it amused me greatly and I had no clue as to what you were actually talking about!
