Laura and I are in the school’s Bellydance Troupe.  Better put, Laura is the president of Bellydance and I am its motley jester.  If that.  It is fun, and it’s pretty cool to be a part of something that so many people want to try.

Anyway, we have been preparing a duet for our next show, which is conveniently tomorrow.  For years we’ve been itching to bellydance to Daft Punk’s Harder Better Faster Stronger, and since our list of performers is a bit slim this semester, we’ve finally decided to bite the bullet and do it.  The dance has a lot of call and response, some snake arms, a little body-rolling (we call them ‘camels’) and even a couple of high-class Will Smith style grooves thrown in there for panache.  It’ll be a good dance.

Last night we practiced for an hour and a half.  We choreographed like fiends. At one point, we were lazily going through the motions when a lilt in the music told me I should do the snakey wave-arm thing.  So I did.  A sudden idea hit me like a sledgehammer.

Me:  LAURA WE SHOULD DO THE WA-

Laura:  No.

Me:  -ve.  Wow.  You preempted that.  I didn’t even get the whole word out.

Laura: I saw it coming.  There was a glint in your eye.

Me:  Aww.  So we can’t do the –

Laura:  No.

Me:  Not even if we –

Laura:  No.

Me:  Feh.  You never let me have any fun.

Laura:  We are doing the ROBOT in this dance.  The ROBOT is very fun.

Me:  Yeah.  I guess.

This conversation, I think, can precisely explain the nature of Laura’s and my friendship.

Will this event be filmed? I would LOVE to see a bellydancing routine that encompasses the robot.

Haha, it’s not that impressive. It did go really well, though! It was a lot of fun!

I’m going to agree with everyone that this should be filmed and shared with the world.
